At Pizza Night Press, we accept unsolicited submissions from published and unpublished writers. The review procedure is time consuming. In order to fairly review all of the submissions we receive, we are unable to acknowledge their receipt. Should we decide that a manuscript is not a project we can take on, we will respond to the sender with a form letter. We review each submission in the order that it was received and respond as soon as we are able, which is usually within three or four months.
While we are initially publishing middle grade/ young adult material, we are open to publishing anything that is compelling, well-done and professionally constructed and which we believe has a market we can reach.
Fiction: Please submit the first three chapters and a summary, which should include the beginning, middle and end of your story and provide a basic impression of the major characters. If we are interested, we will request the entire manuscript.
Nonfiction: Please submit an outline of your ideas and examples of any photos or illustrations that would be relevant (please do not send originals), as well as your background or qualifications as an expert in the field of your proposed project. Please include a description of your target audience, an approximation for the number of photos/illustrations you intend to use and an estimated cost on permission rights if applicable. We also recommend that you explain to us how your book will differ from other books covering the same topic and an idea of how the book might be marketed.
Picture Books: We accept submissions from writers and illustrators. Authors do not need to send a query first, just submit the entire manuscript of your picture book. Illustrators submitting a picture book or authors working with a professional illustrator, please include the manuscript, a dummy, and a sample reproduction of the final artwork that exemplifies your style. Do not send original artwork, as we cannot be held responsible for its damage or loss.
Illustrators: If you do not have a specific picture book but would like to submit samples for consideration on future projects, please send them in the whatever form is best suited to your art. Unless there is a reason to submit additional materials, 1-3 illustrations should be sufficient to showcase your talent and style.
Please submit your manuscript with a cover letter of relevant information, including your own experience with writing and publishing. Label the package “MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION” and include an SASE if you would like the manuscript returned. For art samples, please label the package “ART SAMPLE SUBMISSION.”
